Taking a Position on High Speed Rail (HSR)

At our May 23rd GGS meeting we decided, after much discussion, to support the Downtown Viaduct (aeriel) alternative for Gilroy’s High Speed Rail alignment. The decision was based primarily on the consultants’ reports prepared for the City Council’s May 15 meeting and the fact that it would best support the objectives of Measure H, preserving farmland and stimulating economic activity downtown. We felt it was important to take the long term view, knowing that the construction period would be difficult, but the result is expected to generate increased demand for office, retail and housing within walking distance of the station. The Downtown Viaduct was the least disruptive and most beneficial choice.

GGS will be writing a letter to the City Council for their June 5 meeting and we invite you to attend, speak and support the Downtown Viaduct position for HSR at this vital meeting:
Mon. June 5, at 6 pm, Gilroy City Council Chambers 7351 Rosanna Street.
